Spicy and tasty soya chunks rice in pressure cooker
Biriyani is the all time favorite dish of we Indians. Biriyani will be there in most of the Indian homes weekend menu. I have posted many kinds of biriyani recipes like Chicken Biriyani,Special Malabar Dum Biriyani,Egg Biriyani and Fish Biriyani. This time I made a special biriyani with Soya chunks/Meal maker. As you all know well about the health benefits of soya chunks. It is the power pack of protein and is very good for kids. Soya chunks are quick and easy to cook. Amazingly soya chunks have protein content equal to that of the meat and contain no fat. They are nutritious meat extender made from defatted soy flour, a by-product of extracting soybean oil. The protein or any other nutrient in granules and chunks is not lost on washing them or by throwing away the water in which they are soaked.

How to make Soya Chunka Biriyani?
Marinade for soya chunks
- 1 TS of Ginger garlic paste
- 3 S of Cornflour
- 1 S of Chilli powder
- 1 S of Turmeric powder
- 1/2 S of Garam masala/Chicken masala
- Salt as required
1/2 kg of Rice(Basmati,Jeerakashala,sona masoori etc…)
1/2 kg of Meal maker/Soya chunks
1/2 kg of Onion
1/4 kg of Tomato
1 tbsp. of Ginger garlic paste
2 spn. of Chilli powder
1 spn. of Coriander powder
1 spn. of Turmeric powder
3/4 spn. of Garam Masala
1 cup of Coconut milk
A handful of Coriander leaves
A handful of Mint leaves
Boil water in a vessel.When it starts to boil,add chunks.Switch off the flame.Keep aside for1-2 min.Drain the water and squeeze all the water from the soya.(Step by step photos for How to prepare soya chunks for recipe
Marinate the chunks with ginger garlic paste,chilli powder,turmeric powder,chicken masala/garam masala,salt and cornflour. marinate for 1/2 hour.
Deep fry chunks till golden brown color.keep aside
Wash rice and soak in water for 15 minutes. Drain it and keep aside
Step 02Heat oil in a thick bottomed pan.
Step 03Add the cinnamon, cardamoms and cloves and saute for one minute.
Step 04Add 4 TS of ginger garlic paste.Saute well till the raw smell goes off.
Step 05Add sliced onion.Add little salt and saute well.
Step 06Add tomatoes and fry till it get mushy. Add all the spices. Saute for 2-3 minutes.
Step 07Add coriander leaves and mint leaves.
Step 08Add fried soya chunks and mix well.
Step 09Add soaked rice and mix well. Add salt.1/6 spn. of garam masala,lemon juice and water (for 1 glass of rice I took 1 1/2 glass of water).
Step 10cover lid and pressure cook till 2 whistle in medium flame. Open cooker only after the pressure has gone completely. Serve hot. IF you want you can garnish with roasted onion,nuts and raisins.
