Traditional breakfast side dish of Kerala


Puttu and kadala curry is the very popular traditional dish of kerala. We can make kadala curry in many ways like without using coconut,by grinding coconut,by using roasted coconut etc… I have already posted some healthy recipes with kadala like Nadan varutharacha kadala curry (blackgram with roasted coconut),Koottu curry with kadala and chena,Kadala curry with coconut,Vegetarian shammi kabab (black chana cutlet). How to make Kadala Curry without Coconut

Ingredients

  • 2 cups of Gram(Kadala soaked in water for 6-8 hours)
  • 1 large Onion
  • 3 medium sized Tomatoes
  • 1 tbsp. of Ginger Garlic Paste
  • 2-3 Green Chillies
  • 1/4 tsp. of Turmeric powder
  • 3/4 tsp. of Chilli powder
  • 1/2 tsp. of Coriander powder
  • 1/4 tsp. of Garam Masala
  • 1 tsp. of Mustard Seeds
  • 2 springs of Curry Leaves
  • Oil for Seasoning
  • Salt as per taste

Method


Step 01

Pressure cook gram/kadala with salt for 10 min. Keep aside.

Step 02

Heat oil in a pan,splutter mustard seeds.

Step 03

Add chopped onion,saute well.

Step 04

When onion get fried,add ginger garlic paste saute till the raw smell goes off.

Step 05

Add chopped tomato. Once the tomato become mushy,add chilli powder,turmeric powder and coriander powder. Stir well for 1 minute.

Step 06

Add cooked gram along with the stock and mix well. Add water if needed. Close lid of the pan and cook for 5 min.

Step 07

Serve hot with puttu,appam etc…

    is it half cup or two cups..for two cups are the coriander and chily powder enough?????????????

      Hi resheeda,its 2 cup of black gram I took and chilli powder 3/4 spn. and coriander powder 1/2 spoon. You can change the spice level as per your wish
